Firestone Building Products Company, LLC Operates 1 Million Man-Hours Without Lost-Time Accident
Kingstree, S.C., facility celebrates safety milestone
KINGSTREE, S.C. (Oct. 6, 2009) – Reaching a major safety milestone, the Firestone Building Products Company, LLC (FSBP) facility in Kingstree, S.C., today marked 1 million man-hours without a lost-time accident.
“This is an important achievement that illustrates how seriously our teammates are committed to safety,” said Mike Vall, President of FSBP. “Congratulations to the Kingstree facility – it’s truly a model when it comes to safety.”
The 1 million man-hour achievement is not the first safety related recognition earned by Kingstree, S.C., teammates. In 2005, the facility was recognized by the South Carolina Department of Labor for achieving Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star status. VPP status is awarded only to those companies that have comprehensive safety and health programs with injury rates below the industry’s national average.
Kingstree facility teammates not only keep each other safe at the workplace, they also engage their local community in a dialogue on safety. The Kingstree facility recently hosted local public safety officials, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for its first-ever Firestone Safety Day, an event designed to educate local youth on household, bike and roadside safety.
“Safety will always be a group effort and a top priority,” said Dave Mahan, Kingstree Plant Manager, FSBP. “This is a huge milestone for our team. I am very proud of our continued focus on safety in the plant as well as our efforts to engage the community on important safety issues.”
Two other facilities in the FSDP family of companies have recently celebrated million-hour safety milestones. The Firestone Industrial Products Company, LLC (FSIP) facility in Dyersburg, Tenn., reached 2 million man-hours without a lost-time accident in July, while the Firestone Fibers & Textiles Company, LLC (FSFT) facilities in Kings Mountain and Gastonia, N.C., both passed the 1 million man-hour mark. The FSFT facilities will be celebrating their accomplishments next week.
The Kingstree facility, which employs 184 teammates, produces EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) high-performance synthetic rubber roofing systems and rubber pond liner.
