Bridgestone Motorsport Honored by Boy Scouts
As Motorsports Company of the Year
Nashville,Tenn. (June 25, 2004) - Bridgestone Motorsport was honored as the Motorsports
Company of the Year by the Boy Scouts of America’s
Cascade Pacific Council during its 15th annual Motorsports
Breakfast on June 17 in Portland, Ore. The breakfast
took place during festivities surrounding the Grand
Prix of Portland, an annual stop for Bridgestone Presents
The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford.
In presenting the award, the Cascade
Pacific Council recognized the group for its standing
in the motorsports community, as well as its longtime
support of the Boy Scouts organization and commitment
to the communities where Bridgestone/Firestone North
American Tire has a presence.
“We’re fortunate to have
a lot of local support for our races all across the
country, and in turn, we enjoy being able to give back
to those communities,” said Al Speyer, executive
director, Bridgestone Motorsport. “It’s
a great honor for us to be recognized by the Boy Scouts,
an organization that makes such a difference in the
lives of so many in this community and across the country.”
The award was presented by Bill Barr,
chairman of the breakfast committee, and was accepted
on behalf of Bridgestone Motorsport by Speyer and by
Andrew Firestone, a former Boy Scout, and great-grandson
of Firestone Tire & Rubber Company founder Harvey
Firestone.
“Having the opportunity to attend
events like this one on behalf of Bridgestone Firestone
is the most gratifying part of my role as an ambassador
for the company,” said Firestone. “I get
a chance to help support causes that are important to
the company and to me. This event is particularly special
because I was a Boy Scout myself and have so many great
memories from that experience.”
The Boy Scouts Motorsports Breakfast
is the Cascade Pacific Council’s second largest
annual fundraiser, raising more than $30,000 each year.
Since the inception of the breakfast fifteen years ago,
more than 700,000 inner-city and at-risk youth have
been given the opportunity to participate in the Scouting
program, an opportunity they otherwise could not afford.
"We deeply appreciate Bridgestone
Motorsport's support and thank Al and Andrew for their
participation," said Scout Executive Ron Garland,
Cascade Pacific Council, Boy Scouts of America. "Bridgestone
Motorsport was selected as the Motorsports Company of
the Year because of their continued interest and support
of auto racing (Champ Car). Their commitment to excellence
is well known. We are honored to congratulate them on
receiving the prestigious Motorsports Company of the
Year award. Their involvement in the Motorsports Breakfast
makes it possible to provide the Scouting program to
more than 7,000 at-risk kids each year."
The Bridgestone brand is the official
tire and presenting sponsor of Bridgestone Presents
The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford, one of the
world’s premier open-wheel racing series.
