Two Lucky Race Fans Drive Home in New Chevrolets
Joint Firestone and Chevrolet Sweepstakes concluded at MIS on Sunday
Nashville, Tenn. (August 4, 2003)–Two
lucky IndyCar racing fans won one of the two grand prizes, a brand
new 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck or 2003 Chevy Malibu LS, both
equipped with Firestone tires, at Sunday's finale of the Firehawk
Indy 500/Chevrolet Race 2 Win Sweepstakes at Michigan International
Speedway.
Craig McDaniel of Tulsa, Okla. and Clara Farmer of Houston, Texas,
won the Silverado and Malibu LS respectively in a pre-race ceremony
before the Firestone Indy 400 race. McDaniel and Farmer were two
of five finalists who drew two keys and used them to try to start
either vehicle.
Although only two of the finalists drove away in new automobiles,
the three remaining finalists each received a Pioneer Touch Screen
Navigation System. Each of the race fans had the opportunity to meet
Sam Hornish Jr., defending two-time IndyCar Series champion and driver
of the Pennzoil Panther Chevrolet, who was a part of the festivities.
"Racing is a key platform for Chevrolet to reach discerning
customers targeting quality and performance, as well as reliability
and durability. Partnering with a world-class automotive supplier
like Firestone has made this an effective and successful promotion
in leveraging Chevy's dominant racing heritage and winning lineup
of production vehicles,” said John Hughes, Chevrolet marketing
manager.
“This was a tremendous cross-promotional effort by our company
in tandem with the Indy Racing League, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,
and Chevrolet,” said Phil Pacsi, executive director, N.A. Consumer
Tire Brand Marketing, Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire,
LLC. “The combined effort by all of these companies, with the
history and involvement in Indy, continues to build upon the legacy
of the famous race and our entry-level performance tire the Firestone
Firehawk Indy 500.”
