Bridgestone/Firestone Awards Grants to Area Teachers
Morrison, Tenn. (Nov. 30, 2002) -Bridgestone/Firestone's
Warren County plant has awarded $30,000 in grants to teachers in seven
area school systems through the Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund. Fifty
$600 grants have been awarded to teachers in Coffee, Dekalb, Van Buren,
Warren and White County schools and Manchester and Tullahoma city schools.
Each teacher was required to complete an application explaining how
they instill one or more of the following skills: problem solving, including
science and math; written and verbal communications; social skills, including
teamwork, language and interpersonal relations; and practical skills,
such as finance, health and time management. Each application was judged
based on each teacher's description of how they taught applied learning
in their classroom.
"Education is one of the major initiatives supported by the Bridgestone/Firestone
Trust Fund." Plant Manager Kazz Nishigai said. "We want to
ensure that we make a contribution that directly impacts the young people
in this region. We believe that this grant program gives the teachers
additional resources to go the extra mile to prepare their students for
the future."
An awards ceremony and reception for the grant recipients will be held
on Thursday, December 6 at the Warren County plant beginning at 5:00
p.m. Teachers from 14 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, and 4 high
schools received the grants and will be recognized during the award ceremony.
Each teacher will receive a certificate of recognition along with a check
for $600 to use in their classroom at their discretion. In the four years
of its existence, the Bridgestone/Firestone Teachers Grant has been awarded
