Bridgestone/Firestone's Tiresafety.Com Is Now Available In Spanish

Nashville, Tenn. - (September 25, 2001) - TireSafety.com, the popular Web site launched by Bridgestone/Firestone in February of this year, is now available in Spanish. The Web site helps dispel tire fears and offers consumers educational tools to understand the important role tires play in vehicle performance. By simply registering on the Web site, users are sent monthly email reminders to check the air in their automobile's tires.

"Research shows that with the rapid growth of Hispanics in the United States, there is a need to address the needs of this population - many of whom do not speak English. Offering TireSafety.com in Spanish is one way for us to reach this group and give them a resource to make them feel more comfortable and secure in their tires and their tires' performance," says Shu Ishibashi, executive vice president of Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc. and president of the company's U.S. Consumer Tire Group.

"Proper tire inflation is one of the most important elements of vehicle maintenance, yet many drivers routinely forget to check inflation pressure levels," says Ishibashi. "The air pressure in your tires affects rolling resistance and fuel efficiency, tread wear and traction. More importantly, it also affects heat build-up, which can lead to deterioration, premature wear and ultimately the failure of a tire. Improper inflation is easy to avoid, but many of us just forget to check our tires regularly. Hopefully this free email reminder will change this habit for many cost-conscious and safety-conscious drivers."

Signing up for the service is as simple as a quick visit to the TireSafety.com Web site. While there, drivers can review a wide array of information pertaining to tires and tire safety. According to Michael Fluck, E-business & Internet manager for Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc., "the site is user friendly and filled with tips to help drivers make the most of their tires.

"Many of today's cars and light trucks require less frequent maintenance checks than those of just a few years ago," Fluck says. "Consequently, tire inflation levels may not be checked often enough. Since tires can lose one pound of air pressure or more each month, it's extremely important to check your air inflation levels often. An e-mail reminder, when it's time to do this, may reinforce the importance of doing this simple task.

"Whether you're an automotive enthusiast with a passion for performance vehicles or a casual driver with less interest in all things automotive, TireSafety.com can provide valuable information," Fluck says. "TireSafety.com is a resource of useful information which we hope will contribute to improved highway safety and save consumers money in both fuel and tire costs."

The Spanish version of the site can be accessed at: www.neumaticoseguro.com or www.tiresafety.com.
